Why use a separator trap after an aftercooler instead of a coalescing filter?
A quality separator trap removes gross liquids and solids by centrifugally spinning the air stream allowing the heavier liquids and solids to be separated from the air at very low pressure drops, 1 PSI or less. In addition, the only maintenance is on the drain as there are not any filter elements. By removing the gross amount of liquid at a separator trap, down stream coalesces are dryer, lowering their pressure drops. Every 2 PSIG pressure drop wastes 1% of the energy use to compress the air at 100 PSIG.
