Heat is something we all feel with our skin. What is it? Molecules vibrate and have energy. The more times a molecule strikes and the higher its energy, the hotter it feels and the higher the temperature. The energy levels of the molecules tend to average. This means that high temperature items cool and cold items warm.This tendency is desirable at times and other times it is not.The most common liquid-to-liquid coolers are those of three types

Heat exchangers are devices that are used to control temperature and transfer thermal energy. They may be used to speed this natural averaging of temperatures, or force warm items to heat or force cool items to be even colder. In some cases such as nuclear reactors the thermal energy is transferred out of the radioactive area so that it can be safely used. Harris Equipment deals with fluids (gases and liquids) where the heat from one fluid is transferred to another fluid. This includes liquid to liquid and gas (usually air) to liquid. Heat exchangers are commonly called coolers (oil, air, water, etc). In some cases cooling will result when a liquid becomes a gas and are referred to as an evaporator. In the other, a gas is cooled to a liquid state and these heat exchangers are referred to as condensers. The most common application for condensers and evaporators are in refrigeration systems. Large steam systems use condensers to increase energy efficiency and nuclear reactors use evaporators to make steam.
